Passions that Drive Me: From the Rink to the Canvas

When I am not drawing, you can find me at the skating rink. I am a dedicated spectator and I absolutely love joining my little Paulina during her track skating practices. Seeing her discipline inspires me every day.

Professionally, my heart belongs to illustration. Recently, I had the honor of designing and illustrating the book “Sabores de herencia” and "El dolor de Camaxuaga", for the 57° Torneo Internacional del Joropo, a project that won a public stimulus for FILBo 2026. 

I also enjoy designing educational characters like Juan Cachicamo, Don Soto, and Motoman. Because of my commitment to road safety, I always make sure my characters wear helmets and safety belts in every single drawing. Education starts with the details!

I have traveled all over the American continent, from Argentina and Chile to Mexico and the USA. I have also explored countless routes connecting the north and south of Colombia. However, my heart always wants to return to my roots in San Gil.

Recently, we wanted to explore the tourist circuit near our current home. We went on a family trip to Playa Mawi, an ecological spot near Villavicencio, during the December holidays. It was a magnificent experience. Jenny, Paulina, and I enjoyed every single space playing and relaxing. If you ever visit the Meta region, this peaceful spot is a must-see!

Edu-Communication: Transforming Roads and Minds

For over 20 years, my work has combined pedagogy with strategic design to create high-impact campaigns. Currently, my main professional focus is a massive road safety campaign called "Retorno Seguro" for Ferrocol, a Spanish company managing the Ruta del Cacao corridor in Santander.

Our goal is to educate drivers and pedestrians through visual storytelling. We want to reduce accidents and save lives. My expertise in digital ecosystems allows me to lead these edu-communicative campaigns, proving that art and communication can solve real-world problems.

I have always believed that being critical does not mean being aggressive; it means being an active producer of change. I have applied this mindset in national projects like Ondas Colciencias in Arauca and Santander, promoting science among children. I also contributed to RENATA and CINTEL, strengthening virtual education across 14 universities in Colombia.

This brings me to a crucial current event topic: Critical Thinking and Media Literacy in the context of "Crime and Punishment." Today, social media is flooded with fake news and violent content. Many civic crimes, such as severe traffic violations or vandalism, are heavily publicized. Without media literacy, society consumes this information passively, demanding only strict punishments. However, a critical thinker analyzes the root causes of these crimes. True social transformation requires educational solutions, not just punitive ones. We must learn to read the media critically to build a fairer society.
